Dersim Genocide, 1937-1938, perpetrated by fascist Kamal Mustafa ‘Ataturk’, Turkey.

Before I commence onto describing this event, I should inform readers this is not the only genocidal campaign Turkey has waged against Kurds, Turkey has indiscriminately killed over million Kurds since the occupation of our land, or should I say; since inception of the “Republic of Turkey”. Ethnic cleansing of Kurds continues to today.

The Young Turks led by Ataturk attempted to eradicate the Kurdish population systematically, or ‘Turkify’ them through assimilation programs thus he waged genocide against the Kurds, systematically killing over 100,000 in Dersim, displacing and injuring thousands more. The survivors of the genocide were forced to become “Turks” through assimilation programs.

The victims of Dersim were Yezidis, Alevites and Zoroastrians Kurds, they were attacked for their beliefs and ethnicity by the supremacist “Young Turks”, victims included young children, women and the elderly, the merciless Young Turks showed no remorse for the innocents they killed. In fact the Turks of today have wholeheartedly embraced the crimes of their forefathers as they continue to glorify Ataturk, and join him in denying the genocide of millions of Kurds.

It’s documented that for many days the waters of the rivers in Kurdistan were turned red by blood during the genocide.

Women and children that“tried” escaping the massacre hid mountain caves, but perished inside as the army bricked up the entrances of the caves. At the entrances of other caves, the military lit fires to cause those inside to suffocate and those who tried to escape from the caves were finished off with bayonets. The Young Turks, also used poisonous gas to kill those who hid in the mountain caves. Captured children, women and men were transported to military camps where they were then killed by ruthless rounds of machine guns and the surviving, captured orphans were taken away to become “Turks”.

And by far the most horrifying event during Dersim genocide were the large proportion of the women and young girls who leaped to their deaths (some survived) from high cliffs/mountains so not to fall into the Turks hands.

By 1925, it was estimated that the Kurds had suffered the loss of 500,000 people by genocide and ruthless massacres. Today’s figure exceeds +1million. Ataturk before the Dersim genocide deported millions of Kurds, half of them perished in harsh conditions, starvation and diseases.

Turkey often calls Kurds “uncivilised and barbaric” for resisting occupation and terror thus these indiscriminate massacres of Kurds is justified as an act of “civilizing us”. The perpetrators of the genocide still continue the systematic killings of Kurds today in Anatolia, occupied Kurdistan by Turkey.
